The 2005 R6 may look the same as 2004, but the changes for 2005 are vast! The frame and swingarm internal structures have been improved in increase rigidity and strength (such as in the steering head and rear suspension pivots). The new inverted fork now has a stronger axle clamp and the front brake discs increase to 310mm and use radial mount calipers. Throttle body size grew to 40mm and the injectors have been changed to 12-hole style and new pressure regulator. The velocity stacks and ignition curse have also been changed. The engine cylinder bores now have a new coating to boot. A few of the smaller changes, but still important, are modified undercowl shape, clip-on position, and modified headlight cutout in the front fairing for better lighting. There has also been a special edition to commemorate Valentino Rossi's wins and Yamaha 50th Anviversary, the YZF-R46 (an R6 with a Rossi scheme).
